Labor Day may signal the unofficial end of summer, but Corvette owners know better. September may actually be one of the very best months of the year to get behind the wheel.
Why? The temperatures are cooler, the humidity begins to disappear, tourist traffic starts thinning out, the roads are less crowded, and those beautiful fall colors begin creeping into the mountains. Add comfortable top-down evenings, plenty of late-season car shows, fewer bugs on the windshield, and an excuse to stop for lunch at your favorite roadside destination, and you have nearly perfect Corvette weather. Best of all, we’re fortunate to have some spectacular driving roads right in our backyard. The Adirondacks alone offer miles of winding two-lane roads, mountain passes, lakes and incredible scenery. The 30-mile High Peaks Scenic Byway on Route 73 winds through the heart of the Adirondacks past Chapel Pond, Roaring Brook Falls and the Cascade Lakes, and is a spectacular autumn drive. Other great destinations include Lake George and Route 9N, Lake Placid, Schroon Lake, Blue Mountain Lake, Indian Lake, Long Lake, the Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byway and Vermont’s beautiful Green Mountains, all of which offer incredible view and vistas along the journey. So don’t reach for that car cover just yet. Fill the tank, drop the top, pick a road and drive. Don’t you worry – winter will give us plenty of time to stare at our cars in the garage soon enough! |
