When Will the C9 Corvette Debut?

Chevrolet is moving closer to the next chapter of its iconic sports car, as new details point to a timeline for the upcoming C9 Corvette.

With the recent introduction of the C8 Grand Sport effectively completing the eighth-generation lineup, attention is now shifting toward what lies ahead for the brand’s flagship performance model.
 
Sources familiar with the matter indicate that production of the C9 Corvette is currently scheduled to begin during the 2029 calendar year. The next-generation model is expected to debut publicly in late 2028, aligning with a planned launch as a 2030 model year vehicle. This updated timeline represents a shift from earlier expectations that suggested a 2029 model year debut.
The transition comes as Chevrolet wraps up development and expansion of the C8 lineup, which now includes multiple variants such as the Stingray, Grand Sport, Grand Sport X, Z06, ZR1 and ZR1X. The addition of the Grand Sport X replaces the E-Ray and further diversifies the performance offerings, including hybrid-assisted configurations in higher-end trims.
 
 While specific technical details about the C9 remain limited, early indications suggest the next-generation Corvette will continue to incorporate some form of internal combustion. Company leadership has previously emphasized the challenges of delivering a fully electric Corvette without compromising key attributes such as weight balance, packaging and driving dynamics, all of which are central to the model’s identity.
At the same time, General Motors continues to explore broader electrification strategies for the Corvette brand. Reports have pointed to the possibility of additional Corvette-branded vehicles, including a sedan and a crossover, both potentially fully electric and aimed at competing in the high-performance EV segment.
 
 As Chevrolet evaluates market response to the current C8 lineup, particularly hybrid variants that introduce added complexity and weight, the company appears to be carefully balancing tradition with innovation. The decisions made over the next few years will likely shape not only the C9 Corvette, but also the long-term direction of one of America’s most recognizable performance nameplates.
